dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you for so many things! We haven’t met yet, but you’ve chosen to read our profile, and maybe you’ll consider us to raise your child. For that and for considering adoption so families can be built through love, thank you a million times. Growing up, Sheila loved playing “mom” to her baby dolls, so struggling to have children has been hard for us. Thank you for considering us as parents to love your child. We want nothing more than to bring a child into our home to love and cherish. We look forward to introducing your child to our daughter as her new brother or sister.

There is so much we want to convey, but words can’t do our feelings justice. Please continue through our profile, and as you do, we ask you to look at our smiles and our eyes to see the love we have. We make goofy faces and play games, and adding your child to our family would make those faces and games all the more fun.

We love our Sunday traditions, which include going to church and stopping for donuts on the way home. This was a tradition we both grew up with in our respective families and have continued in our own family.

Again, from the whole of our three hearts, THANK YOU! Your selfless act of love will give us a wonderful start to our love with your child as part of our family.

We ask you to look at our smiles and our eyes to see the love we have. We make goofy faces and play games, and adding your child to our family would make those faces and games all the more fun.

-Sheila & James

About Us

We both grew up in Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia. In 2009, while working for the same courthouse, Sheila saw Jimmy and thought he was cute with a great smile. Sheila asked Jimmy’s supervisor for an introduction, and we hit it off right away. Sheila moved to Virginia and became established in a county police department; Jimmy moved down a year later and became a county firefighter. We married in 2012, but our marriage started with a challenge, as Jimmy was diagnosed with PTSD six months into our marriage. We worked through everything together and have continued to work together as a team. Through every challenge we have faced, we have leaned on each other, relying on our strengths to get us through. After eight years of marriage and one biological child, we love nothing more than spending time together playing games and watching movies.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a four-bedroom home with a fenced-in backyard where we love watching our family grow. Throughout the house, it is easy to see our love of Disney and family, with photos and paintings adorning the walls. Our home is in a diverse neighborhood with lots of young families. On beautiful nights, we enjoy sitting on our patio watching movies through a projector on our outdoor screen while warming up by the firepit. Our home is always in a state of organized chaos because toys are meant to be played with. At the end of the day, we try to clean up, but playing as a family is the most important thing to us.

Our Extended Family

Sheila was born the fifth of six children in a tight-knit family. We get together for birthdays and support each other through phone calls, texts, and FaceTime. When Sheila’s family learned of our plans to adopt, they asked what they could do to help and cannot wait to add another family member to the squad! With the help of our daughter, we bake and cook together all the time. Adding another child to our family would mean the joy of more hands to help cook and another child to pass down family recipes to.

Jimmy is the oldest of two children, and his family recently moved within ten miles of us to be closer. His aunt and cousin also live in Virginia and are closely involved in helping us raise our daughter. Being with family is important to us, and we cannot wait to be able to include another little one in our traditions.

In addition to our biological families, we have adopted a group of friends we call family. We spend holidays together, and every other year we all take a vacation together!

What Led Us To Adoption

We have always wanted to adopt. When Sheila mentioned wanting to adopt, no matter if we could have biological children, Jimmy was 100 percent on board. Unfortunately, we had two miscarriages before we finally had a biological daughter in 2016, but the pregnancy was not without its scares and worries. We conceived again in 2019, after 11 months of trying, but she was unfortunately stillborn in June 2019. With each of our losses and frustrating attempts to get pregnant, adoption was always a part of the discussion. We discussed how we wanted to build our family as time went on, and we kept returning to the idea of adoption. We are excited beyond words for this journey.
