Shir & Matan

Family Type: Traditional
State we live in: California

dear expectant mother

We can’t even begin to imagine the challenges you must be going through in this process. We hope you’re feeling loved and supported while you consider what the best option is for you and your baby. We have wanted to adopt a child even before we became a couple and will be forever grateful to you if you choose us.

If you give us the honor of adopting your child, you should know your baby will always be loved and nourished by us and our family. We are excited for the opportunity to watch them grow and discover the world. Shir can’t wait to play music, paint, and bake with them. Matan is looking forward to sharing a love of science and technology and exploring the outdoors together.

If you give us the blessing of raising your baby and your heritage and culture are different from our own, we intend to make them an important part of our family’s life so they know where they came from and have connections with people who share that background.

As a family, we enjoy spending time together laughing, cooking, talking, and sharing our feelings. Above all, we believe every child needs to know and feel they matter and have a place in the world. No matter what, they always have a family that loves them.

If you give us the honor of adopting your child, you should know your baby will always be loved and nourished by us and our family.

About Us

Shir is an art historian, and Matan is a high-tech director. We share a love of nature, traveling, reading, learning, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. We prioritize our family and our relationship and work on challenges through mutual respect and compassion. We believe in making the world better bit by bit. We feel very lucky to have a life we enjoy and try to give back when we can. From the moment we began thinking about expanding our family, adopting a child was in our plan. Last year we welcomed our biological daughter, Gaia, into our family and have experienced firsthand the joys and challenges of guiding a baby in this world. Being parents has already taught us a great deal, and Gaia continues to make us better and happier people.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a two-bedroom house with a large backyard. We recently started growing vegetables and summer flowers in our garden and enjoy spending time there together. We have a piano and saxophone we enjoy playing almost on a daily basis. Our neighborhood is extremely diverse and friendly; our neighbors are from a variety of backgrounds and ages. We often share produce from our garden and baked goods and meet on a regular basis. We are surrounded by beautiful hiking trails that are just 10-15 minutes from our house. Our city is a great place for music, art, good food, and culture, which we enjoy regularly.

Our Extended Family

Our extended family is back in Israel, and they are excited to have another grandchild. Our parents, siblings, and grandparents speak to us on video calls and by phone regularly. When Gaia was born, all of her grandparents flew in to meet her and spend time with us. We go and visit once or twice a year, and we especially enjoy spending holidays together.
We have cousins here in California who have been instrumental in making us feel welcome ever since we moved here. We see them often and spend many holidays together with them sharing stories, playing music, and singing. On Friday evenings, we meet with our extended family from LA on video calls to talk about our week, sing, and share a blessing.
Our friends and community are what we call our “chosen family.” They are from different backgrounds and places and are all different ages (from 15 to 82).

What Led Us To Adoption

In our first conversation about children, we were surprised to learn that even before meeting, both of us considered adoption to be a great way to grow a family. For the past two years, we’ve been working with a public agency in California; in the process, we learned a lot about family and how meaningful this relationship can be for a child’s future. We are excited and humbled by the prospect of adoption. In parallel, we made efforts to have a biological child, and after several miscarriages, Gaia joined our family. We are learning from her and are in awe of her every day and hope she will have a sibling who will share our love.
