About Us

Twelve years ago, a mutual friend introduced us, and from that moment on, we have been inseparable. As our family has grown so has our love and respect for each other. We feel extremely fortunate to share this life journey with each other as best friends and partners. Shirley is a compassionate person who loves art, music, cooking, and entertaining. She has dedicated her career to creating social change through art, media, and community engagement. Marta is multifaceted with a career as a photographer and educator. She is one of the most generous people you’ll ever meet and loves to read, garden, and take on DIY home projects. Along with our son, Luca, we love to travel, hike, sing, and dance. Luca is a wonderful, kind-hearted, sweet, and funny little boy who lights up any room.

Our Home & Pets

Our home is a safe haven filled with creativity, music, art, and laughter. We love to entertain, cook amazing meals, play games, and watch movies in the backyard. Whether on a sunny day or during the holidays, family and friends are a constant fixture in our home. We adore our neighborhood, which has plenty of children playing, beautiful trees, and green space perfect for long walks with our two dogs, Biggie and Inca. Both pups keep active with our sweet kitten, Miso.

We were drawn to our neighborhood by the diversity of people who make up this incredible community. Most days you will find us on the front porch enjoying the weather or in the backyard gardening or cooling off in the pool.

Our Extended Family

Family means everything to us, and we value their endless encouragement as we embark on this adoption journey. It goes without saying that 22 cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents are over-the-moon excited to welcome a new member to our large, loving family. We are so lucky to live near family, who are present in our everyday lives. Our circle of friends and their kiddos are also very much part of our extended family. There is never a dull moment!

Our family traditions derive from our upbringings, cultural backgrounds, and the new customs we have created over the years. We are a bilingual household and believe learning languages is a wonderful way to open oneself to new experiences and learn about the world. Halloween is one of our favorite holidays, and every year we go all out with decorations, costumes, and parties. Christmas isn’t too far behind as a favorite. We spend much of our time baking, decorating, getting together with family and friends, and sharing our blessings by volunteering in our community. Every year we take a trip to a new city where we can explore the culture, enjoy the food, and take in the amazing landscapes. It is a tradition we have had since we met, and we plan to continue it as our family grows.

What Led Us To Adoption

We absolutely love everything about being parents! When we decided to have children, we knew we wanted to grow our family through adoption. We have family and friends who have adopted, and witnessing the beautiful gift of building a family through adoption is truly inspiring to us. We also desired a biological child, which we did five years ago when Shirley gave birth to Luca. He craves being a big brother and having a sibling to share his life with. More than anything, we’d love to share our world with another child and complete our family. For us, love is what creates a family.
