dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

Courage: the ability to do something that frightens one
Selfless: concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than one’s own
Love: an intense feeling of deep affection

These are the three words that come to mind when we think of you. We don’t know all of the things in your life that lead you to decide to choose adoption for your baby, but whatever they may be, we want you to know all three of those words describe you. Your baby will know how strong and brave you were, and we hope to continue connection with you after adoption would be finalized.

We want you to know we are here for you, and your baby. We hope to be able to be a help to you, and we want you to trust that we will have your baby’s best interest in all things life has to offer. We want you to know we will fill your baby’s life with love and laughter, stability and trust, kindness and respect. We plan to give your baby the best life we know how!

We thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us a little better and look forward to meeting you and getting to know each other better!

If you choose to make our dream of becoming parents come true, we would be honored to meet you and walk alongside you at any level you’re comfortable with.

About Us

We are Shy and JaNel. We started dating in 2015 after meeting through mutual friends. We became inseparable right away and were engaged five months later. We married at JaNel's father’s farm in South Dakota in 2016. Together we do a lot of camping, fishing, and anything outdoors. We love to travel, go boating, or take our side by side out for a picnic and adventure to the lake and let our dogs run! JaNel works as a ranch hand, and Shy was working as a CNA at the local nursing home. We are very outgoing, friendly, happy people, and spending time with any of our 19 nieces and nephews is one of our favorite things to do!

Our Home & Pets

We live in a three-bedroom house with a basement. Our town has roughly 300 people, so it’s a small but definitely a welcoming town! We have a bar and grill in town alongside a pizza place. We are located near an excellent elementary school that offers small class sizes and individualized attention for every student. Our school has roughly 10-15 children per class, and our teachers are outstanding! We currently have two cats, Kally and Patches, both female and calico! We also have three dogs! Rylee is a female blue heeler mix, Chace is a male yellow Lab, and Dak is a male shih-tzu mix!

Our Extended Family

Nelly comes from a pretty large family. Her oldest brothers are twins, then two single brothers, and finally her and her twin sister! Her parents are retired and live at the family farm. She also has uncles who are twins. Most of Nelly's family lives right here in town, or within an hours drive, so we do most of our traditions and gatherings with them. At Christmas, we all go to Nelly's aunt’s house to have supper, exchange gifts, and play games. We also enjoy getting together with Nelly's brothers and camping at the lake about four miles from our town or down at the dam!

Shy also comes from a bigger family but no twins! She has two brothers and two sisters and one sister who is deceased. Shy’s birth mother is deceased, and she does not have a relationship with her father. Her adoptive mom and siblings live in WA, so every summer we like to travel there and go camping together in the mountains! Our traditions with Shy’s side of the family look different because they live so far away, but we are all still close as ever.

What Led Us To Adoption

We have always dreamed of expanding our family. We were never sure what that would look like, but through our infertility journey, we came to realize it did not matter what it would look like, just that it would be full of love, laughter, and so much fun! JaNel's brother and his wife adopted our nephew, and watching them grow together and raise that sweet baby boy made us realize we want to be able to do just the same! When we decided to begin our journey, we looked up to them for advice and ultimately went with the same agency they had. It’s a long journey filled with so much learning, but in the end, we know it will be worth it.
