dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

First of all, you are an amazing person for considering helping a family grow when we are unable to do so ourselves. Please know that if you choose us, your child will never want for love. We have a wonderful army of people that supports us and loves us and our daughter. Our families and friends are super stoked to have a new baby join us! They will do anything to help us and keep us safe and happy, and we will do the same for our children.

We promise that no matter who your child is or who they will become, we will always love them because we know how important it is to have a strong support system while trying to navigate this difficult life. Thank you so much for considering allowing us the opportunity to expand our family and to share some of this love we have in our hearts. We will forever remember your love for this child and will make sure they know about it! We will also forever be grateful for you if you make our dream of growing our family come true.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

With so much love,
Erik, Taryn, and Raelyn

About Us

We met in high school and were best friends. After high school, we became a couple. Erik had our first child, Raelyn, prior to transitioning to male from female. She is eight years old and a beautiful soul. She is a wonderful, kind-hearted, caring smart human who is full of energy. Erik is an RN who works with intellectually disabled clients. He enjoys spending time outside where the bugs are NOT, looking at the sky, and hanging out with Raelyn while she jumps and dances on the trampoline to music. We are a fairly sarcastic and funny family. At least WE like to think so. ;) Erik helps Taryn with her small business crafting things with vinyl and wood that she also does for fun. She does occupational therapy with the elderly. As a family, we love traveling, experiencing new things together, relaxing at home, and experiencing local events and activities.

Our Home & Pets

Our home is on a private block with lots of children in the neighborhood. We live in a nice neighborhood with lots of wonderful schools around us. We have four dogs and a rabbit that all live inside of our three-bedroom, two-bathroom home. We have a large backyard with lots of room to play and a trampoline. We just recently added a hot tub. Palo Duro Canyon is within driving distance from us, and we like to play in the water and have picnics and hike there. We have had nothing but support coming out first as a lesbian couple and now a transgender couple. Where we live is fairly central in the United States, and we can travel to many other states around us pretty easily and do so often.

Our Extended Family

We have a large extended family. Erik’s father is the eighth of nine children, and Taryn’s mother is the last of five. Erik has a brother who is one year older than him. Taryn has two half-sisters, one step-sister, and two step-brothers, one of whom has passed away.

We get together for some holidays at the lakehouse Erik’s uncle lives in, and the whole family has fun together swimming and hanging out. Every Christmas it works out so nicely because Taryn’s family celebrates it on Christmas Eve and Erik’s on Christmas morning, so we go to church with Taryn’s family Christmas Eve and have dinner and open presents then travel to Erik’s parents’, where we all stay the night and wake up before the sun to open presents, eat breakfast, and spend time together.

We have some family in Iowa as well, where Taryn’s family is from, so we try to make a trip up there from Texas every year to visit them and take our yearly picture at the park where we were married. We have pictures from before people knew we were together in that park until now. It is really neat to see the growth we both have had and the changes that have occurred through the years. Our families are very important to us.

What Led Us To Adoption

Adoption has always been on our minds. Erik’s grandfather was adopted, and Taryn’s stepsister was adopted by her stepdad; Taryn’s stepbrothers were adopted by her biological dad. Taryn adopted Raelyn. We have adoption in many parts of our history. We tried to have a biological child with Taryn being the carrier, but with her polycystic ovarian syndrome, it proved difficult. We know having a child and a complete family matters more than blood. Family is about who is there when it is important!
