dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We marvel at the paths that have led us to this shared moment: you nurturing a new life and making the unfathomably hard choice of choosing a family for your baby and us having waited years for the right time to have children only to find out we couldn’t. Thank you for your courage and your strength as you negotiate what we can only imagine is a difficult and heartbreaking experience.

With us, your baby would find a safe home full of love and acceptance. We celebrate our individual differences and would nurture your child, teaching them kindness, wisdom, and creativity. Our extended families are also so excited to meet your baby. We can’t wait to welcome your child into our family. We look forward to sharing our love of the outdoors, of creating and cooking, and of making every day a new adventure.

Please know that we acknowledge your grief as you make this difficult decision and that we would welcome you and your baby into our lives if that is something you want. Your baby would complete our lives and our home, and for that we would be forever and deeply grateful.

About Us

We met five years ago on an old-fashioned blind date. A mutual friend told us we would be perfect for each other, and she was right! Once Tom showed off his skills on the barbeque, JR (Jennifer) knew he was a keeper. Tom manages an HVAC company and has worked in sales/management for the past 15 years. He is a people person who quickly adapts to any situation. JR is an art curator who spends her days researching, writing, public speaking, and teaching. JR is very creative, organized and dependable. Tom makes every day fun and has a great work ethic in everything he does. Together we live a structured and spontaneous life, taking advantage of every moment while planning for our future.

Our Home

We live in a brick ranch-style home with a big yard, a beautiful garden, and many mature trees. Our neighborhood is diverse in age and ethnicity. Located near a university, we often hear the sounds of baseball games and student life. We live in Colorado, where the sunny weather means we frequently see our neighbors out and about in our active community. We have a number of parks nearby with playgrounds and sport courts where we regularly meet our friends with kids. A big bonus for us is that JR’s best friend and her family and Tom’s brother and his family live close by.

Our Extended Family

Tom has a large family because both of his parents remarried; he has three biological siblings and three step-siblings. We usually see them all once or twice a year for food, games, and conversation. JR has a smaller nuclear family with two parents and two siblings, and we see each other multiple times throughout the year. Both of us have large extended families with aunts, uncles, and cousins scattered all over the country.

One of our favorite traditions is an annual sibling camping trip called “Topperfest,” since when it began, we all had trucks with toppers. We and our siblings meet somewhere in Montana, Wyoming, or Colorado to spend an extended weekend together hiking, camping, and enjoying the outdoors. We can’t wait to bring our kids along for the adventure!

We have also started the tradition of hosting Thanksgiving at our house. We have hosted members of both our families and love being able to share our home. For Christmas we go to JR’s family’s house on a ranch in Montana, where we get spoiled with great food, games, happy dogs, and lots of laughing.

What Led Us To Adoption

We come from loving families and always knew we wanted kids of our own. Not long after moving in together, we discovered JR could not have children. The first thing we both thought was “Adoption!” We both have adopted family members and close friends who were adopted and know how wonderful the adoption experience can be. Tom grew up with two adopted step-siblings, and JR has friends, coworkers, and family members who all shared their adoption experiences with us. As the people who are always first in line to watch our friends’ kids, we cannot wait to welcome a child into our home.
