Family Type: Gay Couple
State We live in: Texas

dear expectant mother

We acknowledge that this decision is incredibly difficult to consider. While we cannot understand the full personal weight of this decision for you, we would like to offer our sincerest gratitude and explain what your choice would mean to us.

For years, we have dreamed of becoming parents and starting a family. If you choose us, that decision would allow our dreams and those of our friends and family to become a reality. We will always honor that choice and your child once they become a part of our family.

We would also like to offer you a few promises if you choose us. We promise that your child will be surrounded by and know love. They will be loved unconditionally not only by us as their adoptive parents but by the village of friends and extended family who have dreamed along with us of us starting a family. We promise that your child will be supported to reach their full potential, whatever that looks like for them. We also promise that their happiness and wellbeing will take priority above all else. As a same-sex couple, we both know what it is like to deal with rigid expectations from parents. Our adoptive child will be empowered to pursue whatever life and goals make them happy and fulfilled.

About Us

We are a couple who place our family and loved ones at the center of everything we do. As a result, we spend a lot of time with each other and family and friends trying new restaurants, taking day trips to local areas, or doing something active, such as taking our dog, Banjo, to the park. Professionally, Tyler works in student services at a local graduate school, and Stayton works as a Higher Ed Career Advisor. Tyler’s hobbies include reading, either for pleasure or for the doctoral degree he is currently completing, and going to the gym. Stayton’s hobbies include cooking and supporting his nephews’ sports involvement. Some of our everyday activities outside of work include nurturing our garden, brainstorming new foods to cook and new restaurants to try, and, as of recently, decorating and furnishing the room we have designated as a future nursery.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a three-bedroom, two-bath house in a new neighborhood in Texas. Our home includes a garden and large backyard, and we have already designated and begun decorating a nursery with a garden theme. Our neighborhood is just down the road from a well-regarded school district and close to a thriving food and culture scene, including art, history, and children’s museums. The local area also has a variety of ways to get active, from a lake and river to hiking and biking trails. We have a pet we share our home with named Banjo, who is a sweet and kind Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

Our Extended Family

On Tyler’s side, he has one younger brother and a sister-in-law, two grandparents, three aunts, and five cousins. We enjoy driving out to their home to visit them, which is only about an hour away from our own house. While there, we usually cook and all share a meal together as we trade stories of events since we last saw one another. One of our traditions is to gift our mother a wind chime every year, which is added to the collection on the back porch that now makes a symphony every windy day.

Stayton’s family consists of his mom and dad, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, two nephews, a niece, both maternal grandparents, three uncles, two aunts, and nine cousins. They live around an hour away from our home. Some of our favorite family traditions are going to spend time down at the family beach house all together.

What Led Us To Adoption

From the time we started dating, we knew we wanted to start a family, and we knew the way we wanted to go about doing that was through adoption. Stayton has said many times that he feels called to adopt a child, and Tyler has a long professional history of working with children in foster care. We both believe adoption allows for the beauty of a chosen family, and we know that as much as our future adopted child will be supported by us, we will also learn and grow every day from them.
