About Us

Rickey currently works as a hospitalist nurse practitioner in a small, rural hospital. He enjoys seeing patients and caring for them. Zach works from home as a research professor in education for a major university. He researches trauma-informed practices for teachers to use in classrooms. We both love what we do and the flexibility that comes with it. On a typical day, we enjoy trying new restaurants and new food, watching movies, and shopping, but we also love to travel! We believe seeing and experiencing new things together is one of the best ways to learn. We can’t wait for a little one to join our family to go on vacations (One of our favorites is Walt Disney World!) and to see and learn the beauty of our world together. Being unable to travel as children has made the desire to travel with our future child so important to us

Our Home & Pets

We live in a small suburb in Kentucky. Our home is within walking distance to great schools, a park, restaurants, and local shopping. We enjoy all the charm of a small town with the benefits of being near a large city, including exceptional pediatric healthcare, museums, concerts, and recreational activities. Our home is a remodeled historic bungalow initially built in 1927. The house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large fenced-in backyard with a patio. We love to spend a lot of time on our front porch and patio with our two Scottish terriers, Raven and Rose.

Our Extended Family

We come from very different-sized families. Rickey has one sister and one nephew. His father is still living, and his entire family lives in eastern Tennessee, where Rickey grew up. Rickey remains close with his family, and we travel there often for holiday meals and celebrations. His family anxiously awaits the arrival of a new baby. Rickey’s nephew is in college, so any child we are lucky enough to have join our family is sure to receive lots of love and attention.

Zach has a larger family in Kentucky with two brothers and two sisters. Zach’s oldest brother and sister never had children. However, his younger brother and sister, who are twins, have had several children ranging in current ages of 3 to 15. So many family members on Zach’s side anxiously await the addition of a new baby too.

We are fortunate to have a strong chosen family of friends with several children under two years old. This support network includes other adoptive families and biological families. We routinely plan outings and meals and offer babysitting for our friends. They are also eager to add a baby to all our constant fun. If you choose us, your child will have so many lifelong friends.

What Led Us To Adoption

We have wanted to adopt since we married five years ago. However, we wanted to provide the perfect home for our future baby in the best situation possible. We decided to wait until Zach finished his Ph.D. to begin our journey of growing our family. We researched the process and made friends who have mentored us along the way during this time. We have several close friends who have either had biological children or adopted children within the past two years. We have been very fortunate to be mentored by other same-sex couples who have shown us what a fantastic adventure and blessing adoption has been in their lives. We are beyond excited to be here and grow our family!
